As a result of our annual tree safety inspection a number of works to trees have been identified at Castle Rising, i would like to apply for consent to carry out these works, inspectors notes and recommendations are as follows: 4219 - Pinus sylvestris - Primary limb on western aspect of crown has split and remains hung-up in adjacent tree. Low risk as limb likely to remain in situ for years, though removal and pruning to stem advised. 4220 - Pinus sylvestris - Crown dieback , stem exudation and borer holes in stem. Tree located immediately left of main entrance to castle from carpark, lean bias over path. Irreversible and possible speedy decline likely. Tree is smaller than most in group. Removal to ground level advised to mitigate risk of tree failure if severe decline realised within 12 months. Orange paint applied. 4222 - Acer platanoides - Recently defoliated tree on perimeter/entrance to adjacent field. Very low occupancy area however cambium has now ceased to be functional, bark deamination is evident throughout and primary limb failure is now highly likely. Tree removal to ground level advised. 4223 - Pinus sylvestris - The tree appears in good condition overall, however at approximately 6m above ground level on the northern and southern sides of the stem, indication of an internal axial shear fracture is presented by bark separation, mirrored in location and length on the N and S sides. The tree leans eastward, and the crown weighted eastward, over two adjacent trees and tge entrance footpath. Risk mitigation via heavy crown reduction is an option, whereby the lowest 3x primary limbs would form the crown, ie removal of the bifurcated leaders approximately 3m above the top of the crack. This would significantly reduce stress at the fracture and avoid a clear gap in the group. 4224 - Quercus robur - Axial split and bark delamination on eastern primary - low risk and low likelihood of failure, however limb reduction by 3m to suitable growth point advis...
