I have a small (approx 6m high) Amelanchier tree in my front garden at 4 Richmond Crescent, Islington. It has a hole in the front of its trunk, so I have been advised that the canopy must be kept small and well thinned such that the tree flexes less in the wind, so reducing the impact of the hole on the health of the tree. An expert from Thor’s trees came around a couple of months ago to take a look and he recommended the following works to it, to reduce the size of the canopy and to thin out the canopy so wind can blow through it more easily. ?Proposed works: Reduce height and by 1-1.5m, bringing lateral growth to shape by 1m leaving the tree a standing height of 4.5m.
